Plug in your Magic Wand
Connect your Magic Wand to this computer with a USB cable. Use a cable you know carries data — the one it shipped with is best.

Click Update My Magic Wand
A one-time popup will list connected devices. Choose the entry named “USB JTAG/serial debug unit” (or similar) and click Connect. Your Magic Wand is checked and updated automatically — don’t unplug until it says Update complete.
This doesn’t look like a Magic Wand. For your safety the update was stopped. If this really is a Magic Wand that needs recovery, enter the staff override code.

Having trouble?
- Nothing shows up in the popup: your USB cable may be charge-only. Try a different cable or a different USB port. As a last resort, hold the small BOOT button on the Magic Wand while plugging it in, then try again.
- “Failed to connect” or the port is busy: another program is using the device. Close programs like Arduino, serial monitors, or 3D-printer software, unplug the Magic Wand, plug it back in, and try again.
- Update fails partway: click Update My Magic Wand and run it again — retrying is safe.
